Our family have been “sapheads” in Vermont since we got here in the 1780’s. This is a movie about family maple sugaring that I put together. I wrote the song, “Sugar, Sugar, Maple Sugar,” thinking about how much hope the family farms put on a good sugar season. (Photo of sap bucket by Caleb Kenna)
Video description: The popularity of maple syrup has continued to increase since our folks hung out their buckets in pursuit of liquid gold. With luck, an incredible amount of work, and the good graces of mother nature, a good sugar season could bring the farm out of the red and into the black. Although sugaring equipment has fortuneteller names like reverse osmosis, steam away, and evaporator, it requires an amazing team effort to make maple syrup.
