VLT COVID-19 Farm Relief & Recovery Grants

Vermont Land Trust’s COVID-19 Farm Relief & Recovery Grants were created to provide support to farmers in crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as those adapting to new market channels, product needs, employee management necessities, food safety protocols, and more as a result of the pandemic.

These funds are only available to farmers on land conserved by the Vermont Land Trust or owned by Vermont Land Trust who have experienced significant impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. Please make sure explain the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on your farm business clearly.

These funds are available for two main purposes.

Emergency business transition grants
These funds are intended for dairy farmers and dairy processors whose existing businesses have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic such as through the decrease in milk prices and decrease in production. Funds are available to provide relief and support in transitioning to new markets and enterprises that are necessary due to the impacts of COVID-19. Preference will be given to funds to be used in coordination with a farm business planner in order to determine the best use for the funds. Maximum grant award is $3,000.

Market adaptation grants
These funds are intended for all farm businesses that have incurred or anticipate incurring market adaptation costs due to COVID-19. Maximum grant award is up to $1,500.

Decisions will be made based on the above criteria. Grants will be considered on a first-come-first-served basis. Applications will be reviewed and decisions will be made weekly while funding is available. Funds are limited. Each farm may only apply for one grant.
