Shortly after being selected as Vermont’s Dairy of the Year for 2017, Fairmont Farm reached another milestone when Richard and Bonnie Hall and their nephew Tucker Purchase conserved 360 acres of the former Lylehaven Farm in East Montpelier. Now, more than half of the land that they own in Washington and Orleans County is conserved with VLT. Fairmont Farm manages more than 3,600 acres supporting 1,600 cows.
The family also worked with the Cross Vermont Trail Association to ensure permanent public access on a trail that crosses their land. The Cross Vermont Trail, once fully completed, will be a 90-mile path for biking and walking. It runs across north-central Vermont, connecting Lake Champlain to the Connecticut River.
Farmland conservation funded by VHCB (with matching funds from USDA NRCS). Trail easement funded by Cross Vermont Trail Association, the Town of East Montpelier, and East Montpelier Trails, Inc.
