The COVID-19 pandemic, and resulting State of Emergency in Vermont, is hurting our farmers and our food system. Farmers need support right now. In response to this urgent need, we have launched the VLT COVID-19 Farm Relief & Recovery Grants Program to support farmers operating on conserved land.
These grants are for farmers in crisis as well as those adapting their business operations because of the pandemic. Dealing with market shifts, price declines, new distribution channels, adding technology like websites and e-commerce sites, changed employee management necessities, new food safety protocols—all this comes at great cost to farmers, especially when changes have to be made at lightning speed.
We are hugely grateful to the Lookout Foundation and Beatrice Birkin Thomas and James Thomas for seeding this program.
These funds are only available to farmers on land that is either conserved with, or owned by, the Vermont Land Trust and who have experienced significant impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. Grants support business planning and market adaptation. Please visit the grants page to learn more and apply.
