20. Newly Conserved Forestland Added to Camel’s Hump State Park In 1995, the Trust for Public Land worked with the Vermont Land Trust and VHCB to conserve 3,120 acres of forestland in an area of Fayston known as Phenn Basin, which is located 2,800 feet above sea level. Of these, 2,695 acres were conveyed to the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation as part of Camel’s Hump State Park. The property is traversed by the Long Trail and the Catamount Trail. This spring, the state negotiated an exchange of 59 acres for an adjacent 164 acres with James and Clair Lathrop. A conservation easement was donated on the land and it was added to Camel’s Hump State Park. The state also received a public access easement on another 650 acres of adjacent lands owned by the Lathrops. Funded by VHCB. (April)
