Ridley Brook Popular Swimming Spot Conserved in Duxbury

Duxbury. Duxbury Land Trust. Conservation easement sale. 17 acres.

The Duxbury Land Trust acquired and conserved a second parcel on Ridley Brook, a stream that flows off the east side of Camel’s Hump. The 17-acre parcel has pools, cascades, and waterfalls and is popular with area swimmers. It is easily reached from Camel’s Hump Road and will be accessible to the general public for recreation. The property is also near another parcel owned by the Duxbury Land Trust. VLT is responsible for long-term monitoring of the conservation easement. Funding by VHCB. (May 2011)

Moretown Land Conserved for Recreation and Habitat

Moretown. Town of Moretown and Moretown School Board. Conservation easement sale. 35 acres.

The Moretown Selectboard and the Moretown School Board came together for a second time to conserve forestland important to wildlife. As part of an agreement to mitigate the loss of deer wintering habitat on the Moretown Landfill property, the Town and School added 35 acres to a conservation easement originally placed on 81 acres of forestland in 2008. In total, 115 acres located between the Moretown Elementary School and South Hill Road are now permanently protected to provide habitat for deer and other wildlife and to offer recreational opportunities to school children and the general public. Funded by Moretown Landfill. (February 2011)
